almost a year the drawings have been done. just recently got a pair of works, tree and forest, framed. white paper. white frame. black ink marker. i am satisfied. and good to have someone bought them right away.

i am going to move out from studio in may. this time. i think i really have to throw things away. (or find them home). a new page of art-practising coming.

一直平凡過日的卡夫卡，有一天竟然發現自己天生是一隻蟲！變了形的他像是一個有行為怪異的人，精神與行為也出現失常及錯亂。蟲，在努力適應自己與生活的格格不入，奇怪的是其他人沒有發現卡夫卡在外觀上有著這巨大的轉變，只是從他表現出來古怪的行徑去審視他，可惜溝通的絕緣與行為的誤解，令家庭及社會也排斥及離棄他，卡夫卡一直被困在蟲的軀殼內，去被迫融入一個難以接納自己的世界，像蟑螂一樣，過著視線隱匿的角度中。
* 「亞氏保加症」 (Asperger Syndrome) 是一種發展障礙綜合症，可歸類為自閉症的一類。普遍問題包括交不到朋友，溝通有困難，行為亦難處理及興趣狹窄。

Whoever leads a solitary life and yet now and then wants to attach himself somewhere, whoever, according to changes in the time of day, the weather, the state of his business, and the like, suddenly wishes to any arm at all to which he might cling--- he will not be able to manage for long without a window looking on to the street And if he is in the mood of not desiring anything and only goes to his window sill a tired man, with eyes turning from his public to heaven and back again, not wanting to look out and having thrown his head up a little, even then the horse below will draw him down into their train of wagons and tumult, and so at last into the human harmony. An intimate insight into what makes us all human, 6 October 2007

There is no plot. There are no central characters. There are no moving cameras or close-ups. In fact, this film does not follow any of the conventional storytelling techniques used by mainstream film. However, Roy Andersson's Du Levande is a remarkable piece of cinematic storytelling. It is a touching look at the human psyche.

Comprised of a series of vignettes, Roy Andersson gives us an intimate insight into what makes us all human. In perfectly framed static shots, added with the perfectly in tune, yet quirky, music, Roy introduces us to a host of characters as they undertake their daily existence. Some bordering on tragic, others hilarious, we are taken on a Nordic journey like no other.

It is a journey into the little things that make us human. Instead of over-the-top storytelling or visual techniques, everything is stripped down to the bare minimum so that our sole focus is on the characters themselves. It focuses on the insignificant points of our lives that make us who we are; our dreams, our desperation. It's through this simple observation of others that we can accept who we are as individuals.

The washed out colours and deathly-pale makeup of the characters only seems to emphasize their individual stories and remind us that unlike them, we are all alive. There is no happy ending or light at the end of the tunnel in this film, yet you walk out of the cinema with a sense of life. Much more accessible than his earlier film, Songs from the Second Floor, Du Levande, is a truly inspiring piece of cinema.

recently, preparing an exhibition. thinking about fear, anxiety...under domestic context...

then, come up to my mind, a friend recommended, Frank Furedi (the author of Where Have All the Intellectuals Gone?), about his insights on fear. (books include Politics of Fear, and Culture of Fear) (others: Therapy Culture, Paranoid Parenting)

"Fear has become an ever-expanding part of life in the West in the twenty-first century. We live in terror of disease, abuse, stranger danger, environmental devastation and terrorist onslaught. We are bombard with reports of new concerns for our safety and that of our children, and urged to take greater precautions and seek more protection. But compared to the past, or to the developing world, people in contemporary Western societies have much less familiarity with pain, suffering, debilitating disease and death. We actually enjoy an unprecedented level of personal safety. "
