...Stalker is not a symbollic film, it is a film about the power of symbols and how they affect us and how we try to make sense of the universe and ourselves based upon them.  Stalker is a film that admits that all cinema is a form of artificually induced apophenia; from our tendency to perceive a series of still images as moving right down to our willingness to read supernatural characteristics into what might easily be a walk in the country.
